Leo Bernier
Mr. Bernier is running for County Treasurer
[Citizens for Belknap does NOT recommend this candidate, as it appears by his long record of candidacies that he may be more interested in a public sector paycheck than working in the best interests of Belknap County citizens]
Mr. Leo Bernier resides in Alton Bay, and is challenging long-time incumbent Michael Muzzey for the position of Belknap County Treasurer.
The role of treasurer is part-time, working with the county’s finance director and professional staff in oversight of county accounts, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, cash management and finance planning. Bernier’s campaign signs promise “lower taxes,” but the county treasurer has little control over spending.
Mr. Bernier appears to be a “serial candidate” running for another of a long line of elections in his public service career, including:
-
NH State Representative, Hillsborough County,1972
-
Manchester Welfare Commissioner, 1981
-
Manchester City Clerk, 1988-2008
-
Treasurer, Merrimack County, 2012
-
Manchester Board of Schools, 2013
-
Hillsborough County Commission, 2014
-
Treasurer, Merrimack County, 2018
-
Commissioner, Belknap County, 2022
-
Treasurer, Belknap County, 2024
