MICHAEL SYLVIA

District 4  -  Belmont

Mr. Sylvia is currently a state representative and is Chairman of the Belknap County Delegation.

Sponsored a bill for New Hampshire to secede from the USA.

Mr. Sylvia was one of the cosponsors of Senate Bill CACR32 which proposed an amendment that would have New Hampshire secede from the United States.     The last line of that bill reads:

IF THE AMENDMENT IS ADOPTED, New Hampshire will peaceably declare independence from the United States of America and proceed as its own sovereign nation.

The bill was rejected on the house floor by a vote of 323 to 13

Refuses to pledge allegiance

All local and state meetings begin with the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Mr. Sylvia refuses to participate.

Here he is at two such

meetings with his lips

sealed and his hands

at his side.

Violated the law in overspending on legal bills

The county delegation appropriated $20,000 to pursue a legal matter involving the Gunstock Area Commissioners. Incidental to this appropriation was an express assurance by Rep. Norm Silber that $20,000 would be the maximum spent and the scope would be limited to that single task.

Chairman Mike Sylvia and Rep. Norm Silber directed the actions of the law firm. The legal bill ended up over $50,000 and every indication is that the limited scope approved was ignored. The statutory prohibition against spending any amount "exceeding the appropriation" made for it was clearly violated.

In addition, Silber and Sylvia have declared themselves the "control group" and used that designation in refusing to allow their fellow delegation members and the public to see the emails back and forth between them and the law firm which would likely explain how the maximum expenditure was so grossly exceeded and how the promised limited engagement was ignored.

Transparency is the hallmark of a good representative; hiding misdeeds from the public is the opposite.  What are they hiding?

Mr. Sylvia is Endorsed by a Libertarian/Free Stater Group

The Liberty Alliance is a group that promotes an extreme Libertarian and Free State Libertarian agenda. They have rated all 424 of New Hampshire's legislators in terms of how well each of them conforms to their brand of Libertarian values.  Mr. Sylvia, who pretends to be a Republican on the ballot, receives high marks from this group.  True Republicans may want to take this fringe endorsement under consideration before casting a ballot.

Refused to Condemn January 6 Violence

A resolution was proposed in the New Hampshire House of Representatives condemning the violence in Washington, DC.  Mr. Sylvia voted against a rules change that would've allowed that motion to be voted on by the full house.  The resolution to condemn the violence was never voted on, and therefore failed.

Mr. Sylvia ran for the US House of Representatives in 2006 as a member of the Libertarian Party.
