About the Candidate

Candidate

Questionnaire

Summering in New Hampshire from age 5 on Crystal Lake in Gilmanton, Ms. Vuolo moved to Alton Bay permanently in 2012.   She was employed in sales for XIUS, providing software  serving mobile, broadband and fixed wireless communication service providers.

While she has previously not run for office, she has been active in campaign and advocacy work for the last 8 years.  In 2021, she recognized the threat that the state reps in her own town posed to the local community, county and state when she wrote this in the Laconia Daily Sun;

Stephanie Vuolo: Free staters in the NH house should be of concern

On her website, she lists three main state and national issues, including reproductive freedoms, LGBTQ+ rights, and public schools, particularly, “standing firmly against efforts to divert public funds to private and religious institutions, and she advocates for full transparency and accountability in how public money is spent in education.”

On Belknap County issues, Vuolo supports a “sensible budget agreed upon by our county commissioners,” and that the county should continue to manage the nursing home, county corrections, and Gunstock.   She sees Gunstock as doing a “great job” and thinks it should continue on its current path.

Related to recruitment and retention of county employees, she said in her Citizens for Belknap questionnaire, “If we provide competitive salaries, healthcare and 401k savings and family leave  we can keep the citizens of Belknap working in their own community instead of looking elsewhere.”

While Ms. Vuolo does not have a track record, she has been associated with the area and county for many years.   We find her positions on county issues to be reasonable and responsible, and think she would serve Belknap county residents well.

Questionnaire

In Her Own Words . . .

Ms.Vuolo returned her Citizens for Belknap Questionnaire with these responses:

1. Why are you running, and what do you hope to achieve in the next legislative term?

I am running to take a more moderate approach in supporting my district.  I would like to achieve freedom for women to choose what is right for them as it relates to their healthcare, affordable housing for all residents, a livable minimum wage, a strong public school, system.

2. Assess the recent performance of Gunstock. If elected, would you keep it in the same direction or change course, and how?

Gunstock is doing a great job.  They have expanded the facility to bring in more revenue and employ many local residents. I would keep it going in the current direction.

3. Given budget constraints for the Belknap County Nursing Home, how would you stretch county taxpayer dollars and still meet our high standards of care?

I would invest more in our county nursing home.  We need to take care of the elderly residents that reside there.

4. As a member of the Belknap County Delegation, how would you improve county hiring practices to attract the highest quality candidates for our nursing home, public safety and administrative positions?

I would support a sensible budget agreed upon by our county commissioners.  I would hope the folks responsible for hiring look at what their needs are to properly run the departments they are responsible for.  If we provide competitive salaries, healthcare and 401k savings and family leave  we can keep the citizens of Belknap working in their own community instead of looking elsewhere.

5. Should Belknap County manage its own nursing home and county corrections departments, or privatize them? What about Gunstock Recreation Area/Gunstock Mountain Ski Area?

Belknap county should manage its own nursing home and county corrections department as well as Gunstock.

6. What are your ideas for the former 220-acre Laconia State School property?

Affordable housing and green space for those residents

7. What would you do as a State Representative to improve the opioid and drug problem in the region?

It is an issue that affects so many families.  I personally have friends that have lost children to drug overdose.  We need to provide compassion for those with this disease by having more mental health care available to them as well as treatment.  We need to provide them with jobs and affordable housing .

8. What do you think is the most important skill of being a good State Rep, and why?

Transparency and honesty.  Finding common ground on the issues that face our county.

9. What do you see are the biggest needs of Belknap County, and what would you do to fill that need

We need to have housing that is affordable for the families that reside in our county.  If we can do that, my hope is that we will have a lot more younger people staying when they finish school.

10. What percentage of your campaign funding comes from outside the county? How much from out of states

I haven’t begun campaign funding.  My hope is a high percentage will come from within the county.

11. Do you think our current county government should be smaller, larger, or stay the same?

I think our county government is functioning ok for now

12. What distinguishes you from the other candidates?

My beliefs  are the complete opposite of the current representatives of District 7.  I support a women’s right to make decisions over their reproductive Health, I believe in climate change.  I believe in a strong public school system.  These are just a few.

13. What endorsements have you received?

I currently have no endorsements unless you count the Democrats that live in District 7

14. How long have you lived in Belknap County?

I have lived in Belknap County for 12 years.
